As far back as I can remember, I have always spent a good deal of time outside in the garden; particularly with my Nana who had a large hand in raising me. My grandma had the most beautiful garden I’ve seen to date. Every plant thrived under her green thumb. We had a garden bed in the corner of our lot and whenever we would go out back, I’d ask her to make me a little mud hole with the garden hose. I would squish my toes all in the mud while she watered her plants and at the end, she’d chase me around until I was soaked. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, remembering those moments grounds me in myself and the love that has carried me to where I am today. I always knew that if I ever got a tattoo, I would want to honor her in some way. This flowering plant tattoo on my ankle takes me back to my feet in the mud, water in my hair and love in my heart.
