Choosing my tattoo was an easy decision—it serves as a tribute to my son, Tyler. He was only 17 when he was taken from us due to an accidental fentanyl overdose. For me, tattoos are a way to honor his memory and keep him close to my heart. Tyler had always wanted to get a red rose tattoo when he turned 18, a milestone he never had the chance to reach. In his honor, I decided to get one for him, knowing how much he would have loved it.
I also chose butterflies for my second tattoo; they represent loss and my journey after his death.
In many cultures, butterflies are believed to represent the soul, and their metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly symbolizes the journey of the soul after death, or a new beginning.
My hope is to dedicate my entire right arm to Tyler’s memory, sharing his story to help raise awareness about the devastating fentanyl crisis in our country. It’s my way of ensuring that he is never forgotten and that others may be inspired to seek help and understanding.
