Nathan’s Story:
All of my tattoos are connected by the idea of showing how colorful and beautiful the Earth really is. We tend to get stuck in our lives and routines that we stop truly noticing the planet we live on. The sky, the land, night, day, even space itself slowly becomes a background. These tattoos are my way of bringing that beauty back into focus and reminding both myself and other people of how visually rich and alive the world actually is and why it’s worth protecting.

The designs started visually – I’m drawn to color, atmospheres, and imagery that felt compelling to look at and catch attention – they’re rooted in a specific kind of art I’m most drawn to. Putting those together is important because it shows how small and connected we are at the same time.

A central theme throughout all of my tattoos is duality. Light and dark, day and night, warm and cool colors, Earth and space — none of these cancel each other out. Instead, they depend on each other. Contrast is what allows beauty and art to be seen more clearly. You notice light because there is darkness. You notice color because there is shadow. You notice the stars because of the night. That coexistence is something I find incredibly meaningful and visually powerful.

That’s why so many of the pieces are their own separate world, showing opposing elements together rather than separately. They’re not meant to show conflict, but balance. The world isn’t one-dimensional – it’s layered, and that layering is what makes it feel alive.

Color plays a huge role in all of this. The colors are intentional and heightened because they force attention. They’re meant to interrupt the way we normally overlook the planet and remind us that reality itself is already vivid, dramatic, and beautiful without needing to be exaggerated.

The tattoos are not about a single story – they’re about an ongoing way of seeing the world and prove that its worth protecting. They function both as personal reminders for me and as an outward expression meant to encourage other people to slow down, look closer, and appreciate the depth, contrast, scale, and beauty of the place we live in.
